As early as 1914 a group of concerned citizens banded together to raise funds in order to purchase and restore the Proprietary House in Perth Amboy. This and subsequent attempts to rescue the historic building from neglect met with failure due to lack of public support. The Proprietary House Association was formed on September 7, 1966, for the purpose of promoting the restoration of the ProProprietary House and encouraging among the people of Perth Amboy, Middlesex County and New Jersey a sense of awareness and appreciation of the historical heritage that this building represents. In 1967, through the efforts of the Association, the State of New Jersey purchased the Proprietary House so that it might be preserved for future generations. Today, after extensive research on the building's history and architecture, the actual task of restoration is almost ready to begin. The restoration and preservation of a building of such scale is an enormously expensive undertaking and cannot be accomplished without your help. How Can you Support The Proprietary House?
